Report from the Launch

This is a brief report from the committee on the Launch of Deaf Women North West.

We were delighted to see over 70 Deaf women at the launch on Friday 6th June at Badger's Bar, Derry. The women travelled from all corners of Ireland and all of us there appreciate the support shown by everyone.

The large turnout of local Deaf women proved that the group is much needed.

Deaf women need time out from their every day lives to meet in an environment where they can have fun, socialise, share experiences and learn about issues that affect us in our everyday lives in our own languages - British Sign Language and Irish Sign Language.

Please see the next posting about the programme of events for 2008/ 2009.

Thanks must go to:
  • All of the ladies who brought wine to share with others
  • To Avril Scott who made a yummy Launch Cake
  • To Michaela McFadden for her hard work in getting prizes and gifts
  • To the Irish Dancers who gave a dazzling display
  • Dee Byrne Dunne who shared the experiences of the Irish Deaf Women's Group (and the girls who came from Dublin)
  • The committee of the Limerick Deaf Women's Group for the beautiful gifts for DWNW
  • Staff of Badgers Bar who looked after us very well!
  • Carphone Warehouse for the donation of a mobile phone for DWNW
  • Body Shop, Boots, Debenhams & Marks and Spencer, for donations of prizes
  • Annette O'Doherty for helping with the raffle and taking photos
  • Most importantly - to all of the ladies who came along on the night and made it fun!

See you all on 25th July!
