Update from the Committee

Latest news from the Committee ...

The committee had their first meeting yesterday in Derry and this is what they have agreed.

1. The new officers until the first AGM of Deaf Women North West is as follows:

• Chair - Michaela McFadden
• Secretary - Avril Scott
• Treasurer - Kathleen Holmes
• Committee - Marie Gallen
• Committee - Pauline Doherty
• Committee - Dawn Marshall
  

2. A new Constitution has been agreed and signed by the Committee. This enables the committee to apply for funding. Each member of DWNE will have a copy of the constitution when they become members.

3. An application form has been filled in to apply for a £1,000 grant from Derry City Council. The deadline is 24th May 2008 so keep your fingers crossed that this will be successful! We will keep you informed of the outcome.

4. The committee is still working on the details of the launch on 6th June 2008. But some exciting news ... the Chair of the IDWG - Dee Byrne Dunne will be coming to the launch!

Welcome to this temporary website for Deaf Women North West.

Michaela McFadden and Dawn Marshall organised an open meeting for Deaf women who wanted to set up a Deaf Women's group on Friday 11th April 2008 at the Diamond Room, Millennium Forum, Derry, Northern Ireland.

Stephen Dering of Dering Employment Services kindly donated £50 towards refreshments and the Millennium Forum kindly let us use their room free of charge.

These are the women who formed this new group. Well done to all!

These women gave lots of ideas for how the group should be set up and run. After a long discussion, and a lot of choices, the women agreed that the name of the group should be Deaf Women North West. The group is open to any Deaf woman living in Ireland and that includes both Northern and Southern Ireland!

A new committee has been elected. (See * next to name). The group is now writing a constitution and applying for funding. So far there have been £90 raised through Dering Employment Services and a raffle on the night which raised £40!

The next event is Friday 6th June (venue to be confirmed). This will be a cheese and wine event to launch the group. Any Deaf woman is welcome!
